Up the Creek
This website for the Department of Conservation introduces concepts about biodiversity in a fun, relevant context for New Zealand students aged 11 to 14.
With realistic illustrations, the website tells the story of a group of friends who go on a journey to find out why numbers of whitebait in a creek are falling. They pass through a number of different settings, such as a rivermouth, a suburban street, and a farm, before solving the mystery.
The website comprises several sections, allowing students to focus on some or all of the resource without losing a sense of the overall narrative.
Students can also email a postcard to a friend so that they can visit the website and go on the journey too.
