Learning Media develops and publishes high-quality numeracy and mathematics resources for students and teachers in te reo Māori and English, in a variety of media.
The Figure It Out series is used more than any other mathematics resource in New Zealand primary and intermediate schools. The 70+ books in the series feature creative and engaging tasks in fictional and real-life contexts. The series has comprehensive teacher support materials, which are designed to build teacher confidence and capability.
Figure It Out started as a vision of the Ministry of Education. They saw the need for materials that would support the curriculum and the Numeracy Project. Our role has been to realise that vision.
Much research has gone into how mathematical understandings and problem-solving skills are learned and how they can be taught. We have published some of the findings from this research, and these inform what we create and publish. We know that every student can be a powerful learner of mathematics.
Methodology
Our methodology expresses why we work the way we do. We apply this thinking to every service we provide and every resource we create.
